Great Band Noone Around Here Knows About

Phantom Buffalo

A wonderfully tight indie pop band from Portland, Maine
Formerly the Ponys but had to change due to the Chicago Ponys of the same name
Chitown hit first and got some recognition and sent a nice little letter asking those folks in Maine to find a new name

Well Phantom Buffalo recently rocked a distribution deal with Rough Trade for overseas and is distrubuted in the States via Time Lag Records also based out of Portland Maine.

Anyways.

Take a Listen!

Have currently released a nice assortment of tunes in the last 3 to 4 years

Played SXSW as well as some great gigs with Of Montreal

Hopefully they'll garner some recognition in the next year as MOJO magazine has placed their album SHISHIMUMU as the 42nd best album of the year.

Fairly solid for a debut album

If you're interested in checking their sound try the myspace page listed above.

If you like that you can either order their album through rough trade or time lag

Best of All! All the art work you see on their website and their album covers is done internally through the band

MOJOs Write Up:
SHISHIMUMU- 42nd Best Album of 2005
Emerging here two years after its creation, this was music of estraordinary breadth from the mysterious Portland, Maine combo, incorporating quirky psych-pop, vaudville vignettes and unexpectedly juxtaposed echoes of The Byrds, Talking Heads and Orange Juice. One of those little treasures.

Thanks a bunch for the recommendation. I'm really digging their sound. Any chance that they'll come over this way?

Feel free to share any hidden gems.

Probably not
Havent been known to tour too much out of Portland other than when they went to SXSW and sort of toured down and back

Id love to get them up to Burlington in some way but itd be a tough one

They just released a new EP on the 1st called killings not okay

Hopefully will get that in the mail soon enough

Think theyre sticking to Maine and Mass for the most part as of now

Maybe with the MOJO props theyll be inclined to get out a bit more
