canada

casey, julia and nick go to canadia on a dreary burlington sunday afternoon

stopped at the border pretty much to make us wait i think
but we were fortunate enough to see this wonderful car covered with support the troops stickers and a sicky balls decal of a wolf coming out of the car door
made the whole stop all that much better and worthwhile

casey was able to quench his 3 year long wait and purchased his favorite canadian beer at the first store we came across

then we just took our time and waited for montreal

as soon as we crossed the border the whole day sort of brightened
the clouds cleared, temp rose, and sun came out

montreal was simply beautiful
super busy with streets closed off due to jazz fest, but we were able to find a spot right across from the venue

we didnt know it was the venue when we parked there, but it was a pleasant surprise

had some grub, happy hour, so had a few too many drinks as well

then headed to catch some radiohead

for now ill just throw down some photos from hugobot from the show
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hugobot/

julia was down on the floor with a perfect view of the stage
i dont think there could possibly have been a bad seat at this venue

casey and I were on the first balcony center which was a great too, except everyone decided to sit for the whole show, trying not to obstruct anyones view, which was nice, but tough to sit and dance through

as soon as they left for the encore i snuck down to watch the remainder of the show with julia

heres what they played

Great Band Noone Around Here Knows About

Phantom Buffalo

A wonderfully tight indie pop band from Portland, Maine
Formerly the Ponys but had to change due to the Chicago Ponys of the same name
Chitown hit first and got some recognition and sent a nice little letter asking those folks in Maine to find a new name

Well Phantom Buffalo recently rocked a distribution deal with Rough Trade for overseas and is distrubuted in the States via Time Lag Records also based out of Portland Maine.

Anyways.

Take a Listen!
www.myspace.com/phantombuffalo

Have currently released a nice assortment of tunes in the last 3 to 4 years

Played SXSW as well as some great gigs with Of Montreal

Hopefully they'll garner some recognition in the next year as MOJO magazine has placed their album SHISHIMUMU as the 42nd best album of the year.

Fairly solid for a debut album

If you're interested in checking their sound try the myspace page listed above.

If you like that you can either order their album through rough trade or time lag

Best of All! All the art work you see on their website and their album covers is done internally through the band

MOJOs Write Up:
SHISHIMUMU- 42nd Best Album of 2005
Emerging here two years after its creation, this was music of estraordinary breadth from the mysterious Portland, Maine combo, incorporating quirky psych-pop, vaudville vignettes and unexpectedly juxtaposed echoes of The Byrds, Talking Heads and Orange Juice. One of those little treasures.

Here's How It Ends

Here's how it ends: he gets the girl. He gets the money. His loyal sidekick jumps up from behind the rock and shouts Hey! distracting the firing squad. The sidekick is cut down, but the girl and he escape through the treacherous badlands, and the sidekick ascends to Glory in an orchestra of sentiment. Around the vicious curve, his car skids by sideways, on two wheels, while the enemy careens over a cliff and is tumbling, tumbling, tumbling, and explodes! In a fight, he knocks the enemy off the scaffolding and leaps in the water before the gas tank explodes! She fears him drowned, but he emerges from the sea! The mysterious sheik removes his veil and is not the sheik at all, but the sidekick, not dead! The sidekick is not dead at all! The girl is not dead at all! The palace is on fire but the king alive! The oil tanker is sunk but the loveable captain alive! The rocket is wrecked but the robot walks! The cadillac is swallowed by the quicksand , but the happy pimp with the heart of gold laughs, though the briefcase full of money sinks with it, in the trunk! Why? Because the money is counterfeit!

The detective slays the monster! The explorer defeats the mad scientist! The boy defeats the alien! The average man conquers the forces of darkness! And then he is with the girl.

And then he is with the girl.
And then he is with the girl.
And then he receives his rich reward.
And then he kisses the girl.
And then the sun goes down.
In the life raft.
On the shore.
In the plucky little town.
On the frozen tundra.
In the speeding convertible.
In the posh watering holes of Glittering Manhattan.
In the lush jungle.
On the dock.
In glamorous Monte Carlo.
In mysterious old Baghdad.
In the desert.
In the forest.
In the hills.
On the courthouse steps.

In the center of the sea.
